This is a way overdue post but summer got away from me. Here are pictures from Emerson's recital. She was sugar in Mary Poppins! We are so very proud of her.
She totally rocked it this year and was really excited for the show.
She was a smitten with Jane who danced with her class. See the ear to ear grin. Emerson really had an amazing time. When we picked her up she was bouncing off the walls and asked to go get a pizza. It was almost 10pm! I guess the adrenaline was running high.
Dance started back up in September. Would you believe this is her third year?!? She's planning on going pro by 6. Emerson's still sporting the puppy dog pose from last year. Fitting for the puppy leotard.
In June Emerson was in her first recital ever! Her class worked hard and was a part of huge production. She was puppy in The Wizard of Oz. Here she is at rehearsals with her friend from class. She was a little reluctant until she saw all her buddies there. Look at that grin!
Here are the girls post rehearsal in character
The actual recital was the following week. Here we are doing last minute make-up backstage. Emerson was mesmerized by the older girls getting ready.
Here is a backstage shot captured by the photographers there.
She was pretty wound up afterwards and thrilled about getting flowers. Ezra was delirious at this point. Congratulations Emerson on your first recital!
Last week Emerson had her first day of dance for the year. She started a tap/ballet combo class. Since every parent on facebook documented the first day of school, I figured we document our first day of dance. Bright leotard and all.
Don't you love the glamorous backdrop of trashcans? It didn't bother Emerson.
Here is Emerson literally with her dancing shoes on. She's the bright gal on the left. She had a good time with her tap shoes. Since she has the same teacher as last year she fell right back into it.
The girls switched over to ballet for the second half of the class. Ezra had a good time watching Emerson dance. Since she is in a bigger class, there are plenty of siblings in the lobby. Ezra has plenty of playmates to occupy him.
Post-Class with a sticker on hand. Here is to a another great year of dance!
A full year of dance flew by before we knew it and it was the last day of dance class. I wanted to document the occasion but of course I got no eye contact.
But, she did allow me to put a hair clip in. It made it about half way through class so I was very impressed! On her last day we got to sit through the entire class and see what they had learned. Emerson got quite a bit of stage fright and didn't love everyone staring.
Here is her final dance. It made me very glad she wasn't in the recital this year. But, I'm hopefully that by next year she will be comfortable on stage. By the way it's hard to film with a steady hand and keep a certain toddler from rushing the "stage."
In her class when the stretch, the make a butterfly and go around the circle telling where their butterfly is going. It cracked me up because Emerson had the most elaborate, long response about princesses and castles. It was very creative I'll give her that!
It was a great year and Emerson loved her teacher. All the girls became good friends and we decided to register them all together next year in Ms. Kristen's class again! How fun! So Emerson will get to see her friends in September and will be sporting new tap shoes in addition to ballet.
Not a day goes by that Emerson doesn't say, "Where did Addie go?"Literally every place we go she hopes she is also there. So when it was bring a friend week at dance class Emerson knew exactly who she would invite. She absolutely loves Addie and was so excited to dance with her. The watched the big girls dance before their class began and were completely captivated.
I love seeing Emerson develop friendships. It's very sweet. I think here Emerson is looking at Addie's leotard wishing she had some stripes. Ha!
The girls walked in holding hands and even though Addie is a little younger than the rest of the girl's she did great! As you can see they had a good time dancing together. I'm sure they have many more memories ahead!
Emerson started dance class this week. I think I was more nervous than she was. I was so excited for her to put on her leotard and dance around. So I wanted to document her first day with her adorable pink leotard. I was a little more excited than she was.
This is the shot I got on the way there. Doesn't she look like she is just too cool?
When we got there she was really excited and wanted to run in but we were over eager and 15 minutes early. But, when the class started she kind of froze and clung to my leg. The parents participated for about 10 minutes to warm up and then we left to give them space. By then she totally involved in the class and I don't think realized I left. I watched outside as they tried to wrangle 10 two year olds. It was pretty hilarious. Emerson was a bit all over and needed a bit or redirection. But, she listened about 50% of the time so I was so proud! She is sitting in the back of the class. It was so nice to see her dancing and enjoying herself. She was even trying to make another girl clap and participate. Ha! She is such a little mama. When it was over they all got a sticker and ran out together. She was thrilled until she realized it was over and we had a bit of a struggle to leave. But, we get to go back today! I'm sure she will have a great time this summer.
